Break The Night With Colour

I pulled off the Western Freeway on my way to the Grampians to check this place out and ended up staying the whole weekend.

Another good example of a little spontaneity proving fruitful. Perhaps as creatures of habit, we really do benefit from trying something different every once in a while.

Pitched my tent beside the lake and enjoyed having the place all to myself. Was in the water for almost an hour for this one, shooting from the first signs of sunset all the way through to almost darkness. I'm sure I looked like a lunatic standing out there for an hour.

Almost a 1 minute exposure with my new Hoya ND400.



If I had to list my favourite moments when camping they would go something like this...

1. Shooting long exposures at sunset when you get to stand back and take it all in, knowing the camera's capturing every moment. That stillness. The silence. And standing there right in the middle of it all.

2. Shooting sunrise, as that first burst of colour breaks the horizon and the sun slowly creeps into view. There's something magical about that transition from night to day, as the sun burns off the early morning mist and every little detail is highlighted and golden.

And 3. Sitting enjoying a cup of coffee after sunrise, with the sun in your face and the birds the only noise around.

Yep, I've fallen in love with camping!!
