I remember seeing this place - and these old skeletal trees - a couple of years back on our trip around Australia but didn't get to photograph it at the time. Figured it would kick off my 5 days in the Grampians perfectly.
After 4 hours driving in the rain I arrived into Halls Gap the night before amid severe weather warnings, only to find most of the main roads closed due to fallen trees - maybe not the ideal first night in the great outdoors.
Tried to pitch my the tent beside the lake - and away from falling trees - but the severe wind got the better off me and I quickly gave up after chasing the tent along the banks of the lake.
I made a run for the nearest campsite and enjoyed my first restless night camping in almost 2 years. Spent the entire night waking up and wondering if the tent was about to blow away with me in it.
Got up bright and early the next morning and was rewarded with a nice sunrise and this beautiful rainbow. It lasted just long enough for me to reframe and get a couple of shots, before it quickly disappeared.
A perfect first morning in the Grampians with only my crappy instant coffee, beans on toast, and kangaroos to keep me company
