This is Mike. I noticed his hat and Santa Claus beard from across the street and knew I had to pluck up the courage and approach him. Not the Santa we're used to seeing, eh?
I chatted about this being my first Christmas in Australia and the novelty of seeing Santa hats on a sunny summer's beach. I asked if I could take a photo. He said that was fine and made an attempt to tidy his beard. I got 3 snaps. I offered to buy him lunch but he seemed happy with a few coins in his box - for his next beer perhaps. He then produced a second hat from a plastic bag - brand new - and offered to sell it to me. Who knows where he got them. But how could I refuse? This photo is dedicated to ^rhapsouldize and her amazing street portraits that finally motivated me to just pluck up the courage and ask. Acland St, St Kilda, Melbourne |

I hope I'll find the courage to stop people and do street portraits some day - I just love street photography

It's usually so typical, a piece of you for a piece of me
It's hard-coded
A piece of you for a piece of
me

Before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you judge them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
