This is Mike. I noticed his hat and Santa Claus beard from across the street and knew I had to pluck up the courage and approach him. Not the Santa we're used to seeing, eh?

I chatted about this being my first Christmas in Australia and the novelty of seeing Santa hats on a sunny summer's beach. I asked if I could take a photo. He said that was fine and made an attempt to tidy his beard. I got 3 snaps.

I offered to buy him lunch but he seemed happy with a few coins in his box - for his next beer perhaps. He then produced a second hat from a plastic bag - brand new - and offered to sell it to me. Who knows where he got them. But how could I refuse?







This photo is dedicated to ^rhapsouldize and her amazing street portraits that finally motivated me to just pluck up the courage and ask. :)

very, very intense portrait. I love the shallow depth of field.

I hope I'll find the courage to stop people and do street portraits some day - I just love street photography :D

Oh wow...I really like how it's a very real photo (not posed)...I also like how it reminds me that not everyone is fortunate enough to have a roof over their head during Christmas. Thank you so much for gracing Deviant Art with your lovely photography. :hug:
